A Picnic In The Park...

With weather reports promising 60 degrees we packed our picnic baskets…yes…baskets.  Kayla packed her little plastic picnic basket with a turkey and cheese sandwich and for dessert…m&ms….Kayla’s favorite.  Don’t worry, we also packed carrots and ranch for a bit of healthiness.

Out of nowhere driving out of the neighborhood Kayla looks at the stop sign and exclaims “S-T-O-P spells stop.  That’s the stop sign, Mommy.”  WOW.  Did she just say that?  Have I ever read the stop sign to her?  Amazing…out of nowhere my little sponge busted out a tidbit of her amazing knowledge and I was blown away…that my friends is the kind of stuff that makes me stop and realize that she is learning everyday…taking in everything around her…oh I need these moments sometimes to remind me she is more amazing than I give her credit for sometimes…

Going to Old Newcastle, we were hoping for a picnic lunch out by the water.  Unfortunately when we arrived we realized the winds were gusting and it was cold…so we moved our party to the perfect spot inland.
We ate lunch, enjoyed m&m’s, played a little kickball and had fun as a family…it couldn’t have been more perfect!

What do I love more than how much fun we had?  How much fun she had...

On our way home we decided to stop by our pond and feed the geese again.  For weeks my car has had Ziploc bags filled with stale crackers, cookies and chips…waiting for the perfect opportunity to feed our geese.  Pulling over to the side of the road, Kayla and I got out of the car with the food and camera in hand.  I never could have prepared for what would happen next.  These two beautiful white geese charged us…aggressive…mean…hissing…wings out.  While I wish I had captured the moment through my lens I was busy shoving Kayla behind my back with my left hand and throwing the entire bag of food with my right.  I then proceeded to make a fool of myself hissing back, stomping, bobbing my head, and flapping my arms.  Oh…if only America’s Funniest Home Videos was rolling…I would be $25,000 richer today.  After that scene I proceeded to yell at them to share and be kind to the other geese and other ducks.  I was mother goose at that moment, protecting my baby.  Kayla, not realizing we were ever in danger, proceeded to feed our geese…throwing one cracker at a time.
Oh how I love my life…

My Mom is turning the big 6-5 on Thursday.  She will likely kill me for putting her age out here for all too see…but I think she is amazing…and so does Kayla.  Mom-Mom is one of Kayla’s best friends.
She loves Mom-Mom…loves spending time with her, talking about her, spending the night with her, talking to her on the phone…she basically loves everything about Mom-Mom.  To celebrate her big day we took her to brunch…with mimosas and a piano man.
We celebrated my Mom…for being the amazing woman she is.  Happy Birthday, Mom…I love you…more celebrating this week, I am sure!

On our way home we stopped by the mall and got some Girl Scout Cookies from my favorite Girl Scout, Riley...and got to see my friend, Jen...{loved our "face time"}...

Kayla loves going to the mall.  Not to Build-A-Bear or go to the Lego store...but to dance...in front of this poster of a half naked model at the Abercrombie & Fitch store.  I don't know why but she loves to dance at this store...and while I am not quite sure how appropriate it is for a four year old to dance in front of a half naked picture...it's so cute to watch...

And just so you don’t think that my life is filled with nothing but the perfectly good stuff…here’s a little glimpse of the not-so-fun stuff…

This is our garbage disposal.

It corroded over a week ago and my husband went all Magyver and fixed it with putty, tape, a toothbrush, paperclip, rubber band and bubblegum {ok…not really a toothbrush, paperclip, rubber band and bubblegum…but just look at the tape and putty}.  A quick fix to keep it from leaking until we could buy a new one.

We went to Lowes and purchased our new garbage disposal {putty and tape-free}.  Note to consumers…Lowes price $99…internet price $69…take your iPhone into the store and voila…oh yeah…that’s how you save $30 friends!

And this is Kayla “helping” Rick.  She was the flashlight holder…I just love how the light never actually made it under the sink!

While we all have things that we have to do...doing things that we love to do are far more fun...that's why we put off installing the new garbage disposal.  Our weekend was full of family and full of fun.  Completely perfect.  Hope your weekend was perfect too, friends!
